Meet Doug W. Layfield Jr.
With over 25 years of martial arts experience, Doug Layfield Jr. has dedicated his life to teaching, mentoring, and inspiring students of all ages. He’s trained in multiple disciplines, supported local schools, and has now brought his deep-rooted passion to Millsboro through
Doug’s Martial Arts.
Doug believes martial arts is more than just physical training, it’s a path to personal growth, mental clarity, and lifelong discipline. His teaching style blends traditional Taekwondo principles with a focus on emotional intelligence, character development, and confidence-building.

Meet Haylee Layfield
1st Dan Black Belt, Asst. Instructor
Haylee brings both heart and discipline to Doug’s Martial Arts. A 1st Dan Black Belt
and lifelong student of Taekwondo, she represents the perfect balance of tradition
and energy.
Her passion lies in preserving the old ways of Taekwondo—focusing on respect, form,
and inner strength—while still knowing how to keep things fun and engaging for
students of all ages.
Haylee is a gentle but strong warrior, known for her calm leadership, high standards,
and contagious enthusiasm on the mat. Whether she’s helping lead a class or encouraging
a new student through their first kicks, she plays a vital role in shaping the next generation of
martial artists.



Meet John A. Finney Jr.
Master John A. Finney Jr. is a highly respected martial artist with more than five decades of dedication to the art of karate and self-discipline. A 9th Dan Black Belt, Master Finney has been recognized and certified by multiple international martial arts organizations, including the Eastern U.S.A. International Martial Arts Association, the Northeast Japanese Karate-do Association, and the Shojukempo International Martial Arts Association.
Throughout his career, he has earned numerous honors, including induction into the U.S.A. International Black Belt Hall of Fame and the Diamond Anniversary Achievement Award for over 50 years of contributions to martial arts. His training spans a variety of disciplines, including Okinawan Kempo, Shotokan Karate-do, and Shoju-Kempo Ryu, reflecting his deep knowledge and commitment to preserving tradition while inspiring future generations.
As a teacher, Master Finney brings a wealth of knowledge, discipline, and passion to every class. His students benefit not only from his technical expertise, but also from his focus on building character, respect, and perseverance through martial arts training.
Now joining Doug, Master Finney looks forward to sharing his lifelong journey in karate, helping students of all ages and skill levels discover confidence, strength, and the spirit of martial arts.
